Maryville, TN-Following 2 races where he led and fell short it was Kyle Strickler emerging victorious at Smoky Mountain Speedway. Strickler earned his 1st Southeast Dirt Modified Series win of 2017 and his series leading 6th win all time.
20 Southeast Dirt Modifieds would sign in for the series first ever race at Smoky Mountain Speedway. In PFC Brakes pole qualifying it was Taylor Cook turning a 16.612 second lap earning his 5th career pole award with the series and second pole of 2017. Kyle Strickler would qualify 2nd quick with Chris Arnold, Shon Flanary and Ryan Ayers rounding out the top 5 in time trials.
In Draco Springs by SRI Performance heat race 1 Chris Arnold used an opening lap pass on the outside to get out front en route to his 4th career series heat race win over Taylor Cook.
In Dickson Racing Shocks heat race 2 Shon Flanary would hold off a hard charging Kyle Strickler and Billy Workman Jr to earn the win.
Off the start Taylor Cook would take the early advantage and grab the lead while Strickler followed closely behind in 2nd. On lap 14 Strickler would make his move, diving to the inside of Cook in turn 1 to take the lead. Strickler’s lead be contested on several late race restarts as both Billy Workman Jr and Shon Flanary would challenge for the lead. Late in the race pole sitter Taylor Cook would experience problems and have to pull off early, leaving the battle for the win up to Strickler, Flanary and Workman.
Strickler would hold off all challengers, earning a $2,000 winner’s payday in the series first ever trip to Smoky Mountain Speedway. Workman would finish a close 2nd with Flanary rounding out the podium, Preston Seratt and Blake Brown rounded out the top 5.
NEXT RACE-Saturday, April 15th at Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina. $1,500 to win.
